8 Self Care Rituals to Radiance Over the Festive Season

Self-care has been a staple in my life for some time. It wasn't until recently after spending six months in Bali where I embodied the ritual of self-care daily that I realised the effect it has on myself and the world around me.

It is important to carve out time regularly for yourself. Especially at this time of year when life can get particularly crazy, with social events, parties, rich foods, a few too many glasses of wine and late nights.

Lots of fun, but a lack of self care can dim your glow leaving you feeling tired and unmotivated.

Balance is key!

Taking time to reconnect with yourself through the act of self-care is the nourishment you need for a happier, healthier, more radiant life allowing you to make the best decisions for your health and wellbeing.

Here are eight of my favourite self-care rituals to radiance to help ease you into, and out of the festive season.

1. MEDITATION

20 minutes of daily meditation resets and nourishes your mind and body. It ignites inspiration and creativity and clears out any nervous energy you may be feeling.

Meditation not only lowers blood pressure but also can amp up your immune system leaving you with clear eyes and glowing skin.

2. JOURNALING

If there is one self-care ritual that keeps the emotional world in check, it's journaling. Releasing through the act of journaling naturally brings you to a place of clarity.

If there is something on your mind that you're feeling particularly worried or anxious about at this time of year. Write it down.

This is a very powerful way to speed up your manifestations. 

3. AFFIRMATIONS

Coming up to the new year, it is a reflect let go and create inspiring affirmations to charge up your life.

Affirmations encourage a life filled with positivity and gratitude. A daily practice of writing down your affirmations or saying them out loud helps to keep the small things in perspective and surrounds you with the things you want in your life.

4. DAILY WALKS

Taking a brisk walk by the sea or in the park clears the mind, nourishes the soul, improves your mood and gets the creative juices flowing. It can leave you feeling more grounded and in touch with nature.

5. UNPLUG & SPEND TIME ON YOUR OWN

Your social calendar is jam packed with festive fun so taking time out to be on your own may seem self indulgent.

Give yourself at least half an hour out of your day to sit, walk, draw, meditate or take a bath. This will bring calm and ease back into your day and give you that extra boost you need.

As we live in a world of tech dependancy, unplugging can also give us the chance to step back temporarily. When we return, recharged, we're more productive and have a different perspective.

Did you know that time on your own increases your emotional intelligence?  Additionally, spending time on your own increases emotional intelligence and therefore helps you stay aware and emotionally fit.

6. EAT MINDFULLY

At this busy time of year we are more likely to eat in the run, grab a quick non nutritional bite or even skip meals, all of which are not ideal for the digestive system.

I'm sure many of us are guilty of multitasking while eating. It's so common these days to sit down to a meal while returning emails, writing lists and browsing through social media.

Denying ourselves the pure experience of a nourishing meal can really take affect on our body and mind, thus putting more stress on our digestive system.

When we take the time to sit and eat we are allowing our bodies the time and energy needed to process the food we are taking in.

7. SLEEP

Sleeping is nature's most powerful beauty treatment and gives you a glowing complexion if you're getting enough.

Each of us needs to sleep well every night, regularly, in order for us to have good health. It sets the stage for you to be able to feel happier, be healthier, and enjoy life.

8. DRY BODY BRUSHING

Dry body brushing is the bomb! If I ever miss out on this my body craves it.

Adding the dry body brushing technique to your daily routine leaves you feeling invigorated. It is a way to exfoliate the skin, giving you a healthy glow while also stimulating your organs as it provides a gentle internal massage.

So if you're feeling a little overwhelmed by the fun festive season, take some well deserved time out for yourself and your own self care. Then bounce back with clarity and ease.
