5 New Moon Self-Care Rituals
The moon is our constant reminder to stay in touch with ourselves.
New moon or full moon, both are the perfect time for a sacred self-care ritual. This is my favourite time to disconnect from the world and create space to connect back to myself.
The new moon lends her energy to allow renewal, working with nature’s natural flow to release what no longer serves us to make space for what truly does.
The new moon’s energy is a wonderful time for visualising, setting intentions, and gathering energy. This dark passive phase of the moon has a softer energy which is perfect for planning, dreaming, writing and visualising.
Carving out space for ritual has proven to be very healing for me, I share with you my love of self-care and ritual as I believe this is where we connect to our deepest desires.
A cluttered space can mess with you physically, mentally, and also spiritually. Make sure your space is clear and feels light.
Begin by clearing out your home, office, bedroom or any area you feel needs attention and perhaps blocking your energy or making you feel dull.
The most beautiful way to clear space is to:
• Set the tone by putting on some music, calmly move through your home and get rid of any clutter you no longer need.
• Light a few candles - candles are an important part of the ritual itself because the flame symbolises your own inner light.
• Diffuse your favourite essential oils, Lavender, Clary Sage and Bergamot are all good oils if the frenzy of the new moon activity makes you anxious and overwhelmed. Wild Orange is an uplifting citrus oil that inspires good fortune.
• Fill your space with crystals, flowers, and books - I have my Pixie Lighthouse books which are my essential prayer books around the moon.
This is the perfect way to clear out the old to make room for the new and it feels so good!
Smudging your area with a sage stick can help combat this negativity, clear the energy, and help you start a new. Sage is ideal as it's associated with the moon.
Smudging is an ancient ceremony in which you burn sacred plants, such as sage, to allow the smoke to clear and bless a space.
Take a Bath
Bathing can be a therapeutic, rejuvenating ritual for the mind, body and soul, bathing represents a cleansing not only of the physical body but also of the spiritual self.
Light a candle, run the bath and sprinkle a few drops of your chosen essential oil - I love lavender and rose as it is calming to the nervous system and heart opening.
This bath ritual will calm your physical energy and improves mental clarity. It helps relax the mind and balance the emotions.
When you have finished taking the ritual bath, you will feel lighter, spiritually cleansed and recharged.
Since the full moon pours down so much energy, meditating during this time creates calm, mindfulness and stillness.
Hold your favourite crystals, be in your newly cleared sacred space, breath and move into a state of deep calm and connection. This is a beautiful tone to set before you start your new moon intentions.
As you come out of your meditation sit in the silence and ask for guidance.
Journal & Set your new moon intentions
Journaling and setting intentions are my favourite moon rituals. I feel so grounded and connected after clearing my space, meditating and taking a bath. The pause allows me to really tap into my deepest self and my pure state of truth and desire.
So I write, I keep writing and releasing it all.
It doesn’t have to make sense, just allow yourself to fully immerse yourself in the act of writing. Often this will bring you to a point of knowing what your heart desires. This is when the magic happens and you have a clear vision of your new moon intentions.
Learning to clearly ask for what you want is a big part of this practice. It requires you to dig deep into your heart and listen to what it is telling you. Sit with each intention without judgement, feel it with your whole body and make an intention for what you truly desire.
Combine asking for what you want with the clean slate of the new moon is one powerful force.
Love and magic to you all on this New Moon.
