5 Tips for When the Fog Lifts

After coming out of a heavy time it's important to carve out a path and establish new habits (or ignite your current ones) which support you moving forward and get you back into the groove of life again.
Sometimes going through these heavier "yucky" times can be healthy in the sense that when the fog does lift (and it will) you see everything from a place of calm and new perspective. It always reminds me not to push up against the grain but rather sit, be still and trust that everything is exactly as it should be.

Here are five of my favourite tips for when the fog lifts:

1. Hang out with radiators
Choose who you spend your time with. Hang out with radiators, people who lift you up and you can have a laugh with because lightheartedness is the best form of self care.
Even though alone time is amazing and necessary, spending time with people who love you for just being you brings back the pure simplicity of comfort and ease.

"Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind. "
-Dr. Seuss

2. 24 hour cleanse
I am a big believer of what we put into our bodies ultimately affects our mood and overall wellbeing. Your "gut" health is responsible for making most of your feel good neurotransmitters, a healthy gut is essential for a happy mood!
One day of juicing can be a great way to boost the immune system, improve digestion and essentially elevate your mood.
Taking a day off from solid foods and allowing your body to be nourished by colourful organic veggie and low sugar fruit juice is a great start for a healthier, more vibrant life.

3. Sweat it out
When you exercise, your body releases chemicals called endorphins. As I was coming out of the fog I had a burst of energy. I started running again and felt amazing. Endorphins also trigger a positive feeling in the body making you feel alive and well.
So go for a run, jump on a trampoline, move through your yoga practice faster than normal, take a brisk walk or dance, definitely dance! Whatever gets you moving and your blood pumping to activate the happy chemicals.

4. Journal
Studies have shown that journaling can increase people's happiness. Forming a habit of releasing through the act of writing can be so powerful.
Journaling has become one of my favourite morning rituals, I find it incredibly cathartic and it helps to clear out any nagging thoughts that may be spinning around in my head. I'm able to start my day with total presence and the confidence to take on my day with clarity and joy.
My advice is to just write no matter how random or ridiculous you think it may sound (nobody will read it including you). Allow the words to flow out of you like water. Every day will be easier than the last and you will notice a huge difference in your life.

5. Read a book
Take some time to get cosy for an afternoon and read. Unplug so there are no distractions, make a cup of tea and enjoy the pure and simple pleasure of reading a juicy novel or an inspiring life story. I have started enjoying this much more lately and it is seriously so relaxing.
Implementing self care and lightheartedness into your daily life will connect you back to yourself and the world around you.
