4 New Year Self-Care Rituals for Alignment and Connection

Around New Year, I find myself wanting to slow down, I am drawn to rituals such as writing, spending time in the ocean, getting on the yoga mat where I feel most connected and clearing the old things that clutter up my life.

This is where I find my true alignment.

Brain research confirms that rituals have great power and influence over our minds.

Rituals anchor us and give us a sense of belonging to something greater than ourselves. They also add substance and meaning to our lives, enhancing daily routines, support and honour the changes we experience, strengthen our relationships with our people and help us experience joy and abundance.

Here I share with you four rituals I like to do around the New Year. It can be anytime over the week really.

The most important thing is that you feel aligned to do it - when you are excited to do it. Too often we put crazy pressure on ourselves around this time of year.  Moving forward not pushing against the grain is the calm and quiet we all need, so that we can listen and truly connect with ourselves.

Cleanse your body, mind & spirit

Washing away any stagnant energy or heaviness that has built up can be extremely powerful.

I am always drawn to the ocean - summer or winter. It always leaves you feeling alive and cleansed – physically, emotionally and spiritually. The combination of sun, the wind, sea and sand is the most natural and easily accessible form of therapy available.

A ritual bath is another way to receive, to love, to create, to feel deeply. You can infuse your bath water with sacred essences like essential oils, bath salts, bubbles. Use candles and soft music to create the most calming space for you to cleanse and renew.

Water is a healing and rejuvenating element that is instrumental in clearing away anything that no longer serves us, making it an ideal ally for these intentions.

 Create your sacred space

Light candles, sit in your favourite spot and surround yourself with your favourite crystals, books, cards and journal.

First start by saging yourself, the smoke of ceremonial white sage in particular is said to draw positive spirits and discourage the presence of any unwanted energy.

Sit and mediate - taking deep, slow breaths to really bring yourself inward to feel grounded and connected. In this space allow yourself to reflect on the year that has passed with no judgment, but perhaps with gratitude for the achievements and even more so for the falls. Because, really, it’s the falls that are our biggest teacher.

Write it down and call in alignment

By writing down what no longer serves you around this time of year, you are essentially making space to create and manifest what does.

Take pause and align in the environment you have just created, take out some loose paper and start writing:

What will you leave behind in 2017?

This is the perfect way to get your flow going. I usually start by writing:

I release what no longer serves me and I leave behind…

Let it all go. If emotions come up, let them flow out of you. This is your sacred space.

What are you calling in for 2018?

My thoughts to share are:

Having greater focus and clarity through alignment.

To stay connected to your inner guidance.

To keep expanding your creative capacities.

Abundance and prosperity.

After you feel complete, you can choose to do a little ceremony and burn it. Or some people like to keep it for reference. This is for you to do what feels good for YOU.

Elena Brower has a wonderful practice called Mapping 2018. This has been my go to for the past two years and I highly recommend it for really going into detail what you truly desire in 2018. Check it out here.

Move your body

After the release and a good night’s sleep. I wake early to either walk in nature or get onto my yoga mat and move through my practice, breath by breath, pose by pose with intention, lightness and complete presence.

Carving out space to move your body shakes out any residue that may be lingering. It clears your mind and sets a beautiful tone for the day.

Every day we have the opportunity to pause. To realign. So we can move forward with flow and intention.

And remember to always surround yourself with other light beams. People who will hold space for you and lift you up and laugh with you all the way!

I wish you all the most wonderful 2018 filled with enormous light and abundance.

Love,

Bec
