Everyday is a new opportunity for nourishment and renewal for your body and mind.

Practicing daily ritual allows you to be present, creating space for more dedicated silence and reflection.

Creating a daily habit to connect with your body and mind with kindness and compassion upon waking will nourish your soul and fill you up with self-love. This in turn brings alignment to your self. Your morning. Your day and for your life.

1. Nourish

Nourishment comes in many different forms. Setting the tone for your day may include:

Meditation, breath work, journaling, yoga or long walks along the beach. I also love to repeat a daily mantra upon awakening to myself, such as; I am connected and aligned with my body and my intuition.

Nourishment through food is all about eating fresh produce and seasonally. It is also important to be in tune with your body, kind to yourself and most of all enjoying your food - especially with your friends and family.

Some of the best meals I have experienced have been over a big table of food, sharing with my tribe. This is pure nourishment to me! Balance is key, so if you’re going to have a glass of wine, enjoy every sip and have a laugh with your people. 

2. Morning Tonic

This is an oldie but a goodie to kick start the digestion and cleanse the system. Squeeze the juice of half a lemon, turmeric and ginger in a cup with warm water. Drink first thing in the morning before breakfast.

As an added extra I take a couple of tablespoons of straight apple cider vinegar - some of the benefits include: improving weight loss, dropping blood pressure and cholesterol levels, stabilising blood sugar, enhancing skin health and relieving acid reflux symptoms. 

Bragg’s apple cider vinegar is my favourite as it is raw, organic, unfiltered and also contains mother strands of proteins, enzymes and friendly bacteria.

3. Dry body brushing

Dry body brushing daily will support circulation and increase skin detoxification. Dry body brushing is not only wonderful for the lymphatic flow, but it also calms and supports the nervous system and supports the cardiovascular system.

Dry body brushing is an ideal way of clearing out the lymphatic system, which is the garbage system of the body.

Did you know that a 3/4 of the lymphatic system drains into the left armpit area. It is the sewage treatment plant of the body. So, concentrating on the left armpit area, by softly sweeping the brush a few times clockwise and anticlockwise will release any stagnant toxins and energy.

4. Sweat

Sweating produces many health benefits including detoxification, improved skin tone, stress relief, and it also helps kill pathogenic bacteria and viruses and it feels so good!

All it takes is 20 minutes to build up a sweat. Walk, run, do a spin class, a yoga practice, however it looks for you. 

Steam rooms and saunas are another way to sweat it out, removing toxins and cleansing the body. In terms of reaping the benefits for your skin, the sauna is better for muscle relaxation and lowering blood pressure whereas the steam room will help with overall detoxification of the body.

5. Intermittent fasting

Now, there are so many different opinions and information about this. I am no expert. But, I do know that when I fast regularly to give my body a rest, I feel a million!

Fasting has been around since the beginning of time - The ancient Greeks were great believers in fasting.  Hippocrates advocated it, Plato and Socrates would all go on extended fasts and would do this for mental and physical efficiency.

When we stop to bring food into our body, the digestive system has a chance to have a break, energy gets freed up and the body has time to heal.

When I fast for 24 hours, for example, I simply stop eating solid food after my morning meal.

Depending on my energy - I drink filtered water, coconut water or fresh vegetable juice until break-“fast” the next day. This is manageable for me as eight hours of the 24 you are sleeping, this is when your body is healing and regenerating.

The most extensive and life changing cleanse I have ever been through was a ten day juice fast with Natural Instant Healing in Bali. If you are looking to cleanse out psychically, emotionally and spiritually, I would absolutely recommend this cleanse to everyone.

Becoming intuitive with what your body is calling out for is the most important form of healing. Be sure you are listening to your own body’s needs. We are all so different and perhaps fasting for six hours is enough for you.

This is only a guideline, so checking in with yourself and your health practitioner is essential before taking on a fast.

6. Rest

Rest has become a self-care practice that has supported my health and nervous system immensely.

After working in the yachting industry for six years, my health and wellbeing was compromised - my diet was poor through lack of sleep and my body and mind were exhausted from working long, strenuous days without the nourishment of rest and proper sleep.

Rest can come in many forms such as:

Mediation - Carving out time for mediation daily will be the best gift to yourself this year. When done consistently, for last least ten minutes a day can significantly reduce stress and improve your quality of life.

Legs up the wall - (or Viparita Karani) is a restorative yoga posture that allows the mind and the body to relax, relieving stress and tension. It is as simple as lying on your back either on your bed or on the floor and resting your legs/feet on the wall. 10/15 minutes any time of the day will do wonders for your nervous system.

A good nights sleep - Sleep health is vital to good health. Sleep makes you feel better and adequate sleep is a key part of a healthy lifestyle, and can benefit your heart, weight, mind, and more. 

All in all, self-care, nourishment and kindness towards yourself will bring you into a calmed state. This in turn slows everything down around you, you become more present and aligned so you can then start to connect with yourself again, your loved ones, and this beautiful life we are living.
